About This Site
Golf Equipment Spot is written for the weekend and retired golfer who wants gear that earns its place in the bag or the garage. We cover laser rangefinders, indoor putting greens, backyard and garage hitting nets, push carts and swing trainers, and we write about them the way you would talk about them with your playing partners: what helped, what did not, and who each one is really for.

Practice and On-Course Safety
Golf is low risk until it is not. Before every swing, indoors or out, check that nobody is standing behind you, beside you, or within reach of the club. A full swing into a practice net still needs clearance overhead and to both sides, so measure your ceiling and walls before you set one up in a garage or basement, and inspect the net and its frame for tears, loose stakes and worn netting before each session. A ball that gets through a damaged net can break a window or hurt someone.
Laser rangefinders use a low-power laser. Never point one at a person or an animal, and never look at the sun through the eyepiece. Swing trainers are weighted on purpose, so warm up first, start with slow swings, and stop if you feel pain in your back, shoulders, elbows or wrists. If you have a heart condition, a joint replacement or a recent injury, talk to your doctor before adding new practice routines.
On the course, push carts should have the parking brake set on any slope, and you should watch for heat, lightning and dehydration on long summer rounds. Nothing on this site is medical advice, and no piece of equipment guarantees a lower score.
